My way of reviving the dodo
Dodorable by Sapna is my personal tribute to Mauritius’ most iconic symbol — the dodo — reimagined through art, craftsmanship, and emotion.
The dodo has always been deeply present in my artistic journey. I draw it instinctively, drawn to its gentle nature, expressive character, and the powerful story it carries. Endemic to Mauritius, the dodo represents something rare, precious, and profoundly ours. With Dodorable, I wanted to go beyond illustration and create an object you could truly connect with – something to hold, to cherish, and to pass on. Each Dodorable sculpture is hand-sculpted by a local Mauritian artisan, reflecting my commitment to supporting local talent and preserving authentic craftsmanship. Every piece is then hand-painted and carefully designed by me, with patience and intention, using colours, details, and emotions that define my artistic universe. Nothing is industrial. Nothing is mass-produced. Every Dodorable is made by hand, with heart. These sculptures are conceived as collectible art pieces, released in limited editions and small batches, much like fine jewellery. Each Dodorable comes with a signed certificate of authenticity, ensuring its uniqueness and artistic value. The very first edition is limited to only 10 pieces.More than a sculpture, Dodorable is an emblem of our island’s creativity – a way of reviving what once existed, through art.
